You are my Best Friend
You are my Best Friend.
I say this far too often, and you reciprocate. But I can’t say what I really mean. Best Friend is too casual a term to describe what you are to me. If I said what I truly meant, I’d scare you away. I know this because I tried once. I know this because I know you and your fear of emotion, feelings, and anything that might suggest your heart is more than a stoic, utilitarian vessel that powers your body.
Dear Future Husband/Wife,
I don’t want us to be those parents who never act romantic in front of their children. I want our kids to learn how to really love somebody because we lead by example. So kiss me in the kitchen while I’m pouring cereal, cuddle with me on the couch during family movie night, and hold my hand while we grocery shop.
Let’s show them what true love looks like, so when they find it for themselves they’ll never let it go.
